The evolution of emergency medicine in India – from being a largely overlooked discipline to a cornerstone of modern care – was a key focus. Postgraduate programs, institutional support, and public awareness have grown significantly in the last two decades. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the vital role emergency teams play, further pushing investment and innovation in this space.

Yet, challenges such as workforce shortages, infrastructure gaps, and limited training persist. Dr. Tamorish Kole, Director of Emergency Medicine at DPU, emphasized the importance of simulation-based learning and global knowledge exchange in addressing these barriers and raising care standards.

Dr Sarbari Swaika, Professor & Head of the Emergency Department, stated, “Emergency medicine means being prepared for the unexpected and acting with precision and empathy. That’s what we train for at DPU.”

As part of the global observance of Emergency Medicine Day 2025, Dr D Y Patil Medical College reaffirmed its mission to develop future-ready healthcare leaders who respond when it matters most – saving lives through swift, skilled, and compassionate care.
