Indapur: Dr Bhagayshree Chavan has become the first woman from Indapur city to earn the M.S. (Master of Surgery) degree, marking a significant milestone in the region’s medical history.
Her accomplishment has drawn praise from across the community, highlighting her determination, academic excellence, and dedication to public service.
Dr Bhagayshree Chavan is the daughter of Mahadev Chavan, a retired teacher and current head of the Shankarrao Patil Primary Health Centre in Indapur, and Vaishali Chavan, also a teacher. Her family background in education deeply influenced her journey toward a career in medicine.
She began her academic journey at Zilla Parishad Primary School No. 2 in Indapur and later completed secondary education at Shri Narayandas Ramdas High School.
Pursuing the science stream for higher secondary education, she studied at H. Chate English Medium School and Junior College in Khed Shivapur.
After qualifying for the NEET entrance exam with merit, she was admitted to the College of Ayurveda and Research Centre in Nigdi, Pune, where she completed her B.A.M.S. degree with first-class distinction.
She then cleared the PG-CET exam and secured admission to Ashvin Rural Ayurved College, Manchi Hill (Taluka Sangamner), where she pursued a three-year postgraduate degree in surgery, earning the M.S. title with commendable grades.
Covid Warrior Dr Bhagayshree Chavan
During her internship, the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded. Assigned to the Rural Hospital in Vadgaon Maval, Dr Chavan worked on the frontlines, helping save many lives. Her service was acknowledged with a ‘COVID Warrior’ award by the hospital administration.
Dr Chavan credits her father’s values for her success. “My father pursued education despite poverty and helped many students through his career as a teacher. I wish to follow in his footsteps. For me, serving the underprivileged through healthcare is a form of divine service,” she said.
