Mumbai: After suffering intense, unrelenting headaches for over three years, a 31-year-old woman finally found relief, thanks to the timely and accurate diagnosis by Dr Sheetal Goyal, Consultant Neurologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central.
Initially misdiagnosed with chronic migraines across multiple clinics, the patient relied heavily on daily painkillers with no improvement in her condition. When she visited Dr Sheetal Goyal, the clinical presentation raised immediate red flags. The pain did not follow a typical migraine pattern – prompting a detailed reassessment.

A thorough review of her medical history and earlier MRI scans revealed a vital oversight: the patient had undergone pituitary tumor surgery three years earlier. Fresh imaging and hormonal evaluations confirmed a recurrence of the tumor, now actively secreting growth hormone—an indication of acromegaly.
Further investigation, including photographic comparisons, revealed physical changes such as coarse facial features and enlarged limbs. These findings, noted by the patient’s husband and verified by Dr Goyal, confirmed the hormone-induced condition.

Dr Goyal collaborated with endocrinologist Dr Pranav Ghody to begin targeted therapy. Within a month, the woman’s three-year ordeal ended – without the use of painkillers.

“This case illustrates that not every headache is a migraine,” said Dr Sheetal Goyal. “Proper listening and holistic assessment can uncover the true cause.”
Now free from pain and back on the path to normalcy, the patient’s story underscores the life-changing impact of correct diagnosis and expert neurological care.
