Nagpur: A severe heatwave in Nagpur has led to a rise in health-related emergencies, with 230 cases reported due to intense heat exposure.
The affected individuals are showing symptoms including heatstroke, skin rashes, seizures, and fatigue, prompting a city-wide alert.
Hospitals such as Medical College Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Daga Hospital, various Nagpur Municipal Corporation facilities, and private hospitals have reported an increasing number of heat-related patients.
As per the directive, all hospitals are required to record cases linked to heat stress. Based on these records, the Municipal Health Department has officially confirmed 230 patients suffering from various heat-related conditions.
The data reveals the following breakdown:
- Heatstroke: 1 case
- Heat rash: 52 cases
- Heat-induced seizures: 72 cases
- Fatigue: 105 cases
These figures highlight the broad impact of the current heatwave, particularly among vulnerable groups such as farmers, construction labourers, drivers, police officers, sanitation workers, children, and senior citizens.
Heatwave in Nagpur: Preventive Measures
The Nagpur Municipal Health Department has urged citizens to take preventive measures, including staying well-hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
Common symptoms observed in patients include:
- General discomfort
- Difficulty walking
- Dizziness or fainting spells
- Confusion or disorientation
- Seizures in some cases
The rising cases, amidst heatwave in Nagpur, underline the urgent need for public caution and immediate steps to minimise exposure to extreme heat.
With temperatures soaring, residents are advised to remain indoors during the afternoon, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of fluids.
