Pune: In a groundbreaking medical feat, Sahyadri Hospitals MomStory in Shivajinagar has performed a complex uterine reconstruction surgery that helped preserve the fertility of a 36-year-old woman from Cameroon, offering her renewed hope of motherhood.
Gladys Morielle Nguedia Ndadem, a schoolteacher from Cameroon, suffered a severe medical condition following a miscarriage during her second trimester. Complications such as retained placenta and post-abortion hemorrhage, coupled with a history of endometriosis and pelvic inflammation, led doctors in Cameroon to recommend a hysterectomy – threatening her chances of ever becoming a mother.

Refusing to give up, Ms. Ndadem travelled to India and consulted with Dr Supriya Puranik, Director of Obstetrics-Gynaecology and IVF at MomStory by Sahyadri Hospitals, renowned for managing high-risk and complex gynecological cases.
Uterine Reconstruction Surgery
On April 19, 2025, a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Puranik performed uterine reconstruction, a high-risk surgical procedure, which included:
- Laparotomy with adhesiolysis
- Bilateral internal iliac and uterine artery ligation
- Removal of necrotic placental tissue
- Myomectomy to remove multiple uterine fibroids
- Abdominal cervical encirclage and uterine reconstruction to restore fertility and prevent future miscarriages
“This was one of the most challenging surgeries of my career,” said Dr. Puranik. “Gladys had multiple failed interventions, abnormal vascular structures, and placenta percreta. But our goal was to protect her dream of motherhood while ensuring her safety.”
Now recovering well, Ms. Ndadem shared heartfelt gratitude to the Sahyadri team for preserving her ability to become a mother.
